Adoption Abbreviations

FTIA- Families Thru International Adoption (our agency)
CCAA- China Center of Adoption Affairs (Chinese govt. agency that handles all adoptions through China)
USCIS- U.S. Citizen & Immigration Servces
DTC- Dossier to China (date we mail dossier)
LID- Log-in date (date CCAA officially logs in our dossier)
LOI- Letter of Intent (when we formally ask China to accept our match to a child)
PA- Pre-approval (China's pre-approval to our LOI, before reviewing our dossier)
LOA- Letter of Acceptance (After CCAA reviews our dossier and officially approves us to adopt the child)
TA- Travel Approval (all documents have been filed with USCIS and we are approved to travel to China)
CA- Consulate Appointment (The last stop in China is the US Consulate, once this appointment is set we can travel!)

Our Timeline

1/22/09- Called to begin home study
2/2/09- First visit with social worker
3/2/09- Applied to FTIA
3/6/09- Accepted by FTIA
3/20/09- Mailed completed home study packet
4/13/09- Home tour & interviews with social worker
4/27/09- Received first draft of home study for review
5/2/09- Adoption training workshop
5/18/09- Home study complete
5/19/09- Locked file
5/20/09- Submitted LOI
5/26/09- Mailed I-800A to USCIS
6/1/09- Pre-approval received!!
6/23/09- Fingerprints for USCIS
7/7/09- I-800A approval
7/20/09- Dossier to FTIA
7/23/09- Dossier to China
7/30/09- LID- dossier logged in!
10/26/09- Letter of Approval!
10/28/09- Mailed I-800 to USCIS, applied for Chinese visas
11/13/09- I-800 Approval
11/20/09- Approval cabled to Guanghzou
12/9/09- Article 5 issued
1/4/10- Travel Approval!
1/26-2/12/10- Travel dates!
